The Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) is a standardized networking protocol used on Internet Protocol (IP) networks for dynamically distributing network configuration parameters, such as IP addresses for interfaces and services. With DHCP, computers request IP addresses and networking parameters automatically from a DHCP server, reducing the need for a network administrator or a user to configure these settings manually.

FQDN (Fully Qualified Domain Name)

FQDN (fully qualified domain name) is an unambiguous domain name that specifies the exact location of a computer within the domain's hierarchy.

The complete domain name for a specific computer, or host, on the Internet. The FQDN consists of two parts: the host name and the domain name. An example is mycomputer.mydomain.com.

A URL that consists of a host and domain name, including top-level domain. For example, www.symantec.com is a fully qualified domain name. www is the host, symantec is the second-level domain, and .com is the top-level domain. An FQDN always starts with a host name and continues to the top-level domain name, so www.sesa.symantec.com is also an FQDN.

Power over Ethernet or PoE describes any of several standardized or ad-hoc systems which pass electrical power along with data on Ethernet cabling. This allows a single cable to provide both data connection and electrical power to devices such as wireless access points or IP cameras. Unlike standards such as Universal Serial Bus which also power devices over the data cables, PoE allows long cable lengths. Power may be carried on the same conductors as the data, or it may be carried on dedicated conductors in the same cable.

Since only two of the four pairs are needed for 10BASE-T or 100BASE-TX, power may be transmitted on the unused conductors of a cable (see figure above).

Wearable Technology, Applications, and Products

This figure is quite good for depicting the wearable technology in different areas and the products associated. Unlike CES 2014, the wearable products are more versatile, not limited to watch-like or bracelet-like devices. We may discuss more about these different wearable  devices soon.

Wearable Tech Trends - Activity Trackers and Smart Watches - CES 2014

A good resource for the state-of-the-art wearable devices. My only question is: all devices are almost in watch or bracelet form. Can we have different forms? 

Insteon: Introduction

Insteon is designed to enable devices, such as light switches, thermostats, motion sensors, etc. to be networked together using the power line, radio frequency (RF), or both. The technology and application seem notable. Here I use the following YouTube video as an introduction.

Estimote Beacon

An Estimote Beacon is a small, wireless device, sometimes also called a 'mote'. When placed in a physical space, it broadcasts tiny radio signals to smart devices. Think about it as a very small lighthouse. Smartphones that are in range are able to 'hear' these signals and estimate their location very precisely, as well as communicate with the beacon to exchange data and information.

TI's Vision of Future Smart Car

This video gives a beautiful vision of future smart car. It utilizes the information from Internet smartly. Although it is not actually a demo regarding the Internet of "Things", it involves a thing (car) and the Internet.
